Jarrod Lyle: Putting up a good fight

Sentosa, Singapore, August 1: Jarrod Lyle of Australia has stopped active cancer treatment and has gone into palliative care.

Lyle fought off leukaemia twice successfully; first when he was a teenager in 1990 and twelve years later in 2012. However, he was admitted into hospital after a relapse last year.  On July 31, Lyle’s wife Briony wrote a heart-breaking post on social media on his decision not to carry on with the treatment.

The 36-year-old has inspired many golf fans with his ability to compete at an elite level despite battling with a debilitating chronic condition.

Lyle, a two-time winner on the Web.Com Tour, honed his skills on the Asian Tour shortly after turning professional.

The Australian adapted to the rigours of competition very quickly, evident by his tied-second finish at the 2005 Macau Open, his third appearance on the Asian Tour. He posted second-place finish at the Brunei Open later in the season before ending the year in 40th position on the Order of Merit.

Things got even better for Lyle in his sophomore year on the Asian Tour, as he achieved good finishes at a couple of lucrative events. In particular, he was tied-fourth at the US$1.8 million Volvo China Open. He ended the year in 23rd place on the money list.

Our thoughts are with Jarrod Lyle and his family.
